Each image begins as a simple grid of cells, every cell filled with a different effect: hatching, solid colour, small grids. The grid breaks into a dense, map-like field, like the topographical map of a city. Winding channels cut through it like rivers or roads: the way, the path through. The palette shifts between outputs, from ochre, slate blue and maroon on white to gold and blue on black.

Flow fields bend the grid into currents, and attractors and repellors open points of white space.

The series visualizes the life choices each person faces: a jumble of options and thoughts to navigate, and the question of whether a path forward can be found. Routes open, knot up and close off. Colour follows emotional state, the focal point of each output corresponds to a personal challenge, and the remaining traits to the thoughts of a given day.

Foggy Window asked how we see; Finding the Way asks how we move once we have seen.

Shown in Dawn Contemporary's online group exhibition Let It Flow. Outputs up to 13,000 × 16,250 px.
